Create a character, Be a character

At Kids Creative, kids are in charge of creating characters and determining who they act out on stage. Even if they are playing music or dancing or presenting their work of visual art, their unique thumbprint is part of their presentation. Our kids get to take ownership over their performances because they are the creative force and invested in its success. Each participant gets to create a character in a story, and to the extent that they choose, get to join with their group (their ensemble) to present that character to an audience of friends and family.
The most amazing part of creating a character in a supportive environment like Kids Creative is that it allows for self expression without the concern of judgement. Through the rule "All Ideas Are Good," imaginative characters are developed in a positive environment. The characters gain life from inside the creative minds. They offer a way for the kids to act and express thoughts and feelings before they are comfortable to express themselves. There is a great deal of emotional security in creating a character in a space where the imagination is welcomed to flourish. You don't need to be especially good at acting or theater to play pretend. Once your imagination can run wild, the rest is learning skills that will propel you forward.
