Class Offerings

We offer these incredible classes:

Create-A-Play/Rock N Roll Theater (musical theater): Kids in grades K-5 create their own brand new musical. Working with dynamic Kids Creative teacher-artists, students develop a brand new musical based completely on their imaginations, including brainstorming a story, creating characters, writing a script, learning original music and performing their musical for friends and families at the end of the term.The curriculum is based on the CAP philosophy "All ideas are good" and we use a creation method that emphasizes community, imagination and confidence.

Create-Your-Enviroment (enviromental exploration through art): Children explore their surroundings through this science-based class, and as a group learn about the things that both sustain and threaten their environment. They then explore different ways to create their ideal environment and develop a group project that can help make their environment more sustainable.

Create-A-Move(dance): Children learn basics in various forms of dance, both classical and contemporary, from various cultures around the world. Students use these skills in combination with their own dance innovations brought out through improvisational techniques to choreograph their own dance routines.Create-A-World — (visual arts) Led by a visual artist & teacher, students work together to tell a brand new story through visual art. They will use various artistic mediums to create a tale that will be told in an art exhibition format displayed at the end of the semester.

Create-A-Groove(electronic songwriting): The after school program where youth create their own music by making use of the latest music-writing technology. They are guided through this incredibly fun and rewarding process by professional songwriters and producers. Students will learn the basics in music theory, gain hands-on experience with diverse styles of music and explore electronic based music programming, a method used by many popular contemporary artists. At the close of the program, children will be able to showcase their own musical creations at a final performance and will take home the experience on their own CD. The songs will also be available to download from the Kids Creative website.

Create-A-World (visual arts): Led by a visual artist & teacher, students work together to tell a brand new story through visual art. They will use various artistic mediums to create a tale that will be told in an art exhibition format displayed at the end of the semester.

Create-Your-Future (envisioning and translating it to the arts)-- (Specially for Middle School and High School students): Create-Your-Future is a unique 20-week after school program for high school students that combines artistic expression with social activism through an interactive, self-directed process. Create-Your-Future empowers students to analyze their view of the current status of peace in the world and to brainstorm visions of a peaceful future. The program has two parts:
Part I. Envisioning through theater, music and the arts
The youth work together to identify issues in their lives/community/world that they feel are blocking peace and that they wish to change. The students then develop some possible solutions that they present through theater, music and visual arts.
Part II. Taking Action
As the creation process unfolds, the students identify real actions that they can take to make change. They will work with the staff of Mothers on the Move/Youth on the Move and Kids Creative to find volunteer opportunities, internships and other coordinated actions that will help them turn their envisioning into reality. This section of the program includes at least 15 volunteer hours per student.
Certificate
Upon completion of the entire program, including participation in the final performance and the 15 hours of volunteer work, students receive a Peace Education Certificate from Kids Creative.
