March 2019: Jessica Somerville

Kids Creative is pleased to recognize Jessica Somerville as our Employee of the Month for March! In everything she does, Jess embodies the “Six C’s of Peacemaking:” confidence, collaboration, creativity, conflict resolution, community, and cookies… because “fun” doesn’t start with a C! Because of enthusiastic employees like Jess, Kids Creative’s guiding philosophy is able to shine through to the hundreds of children and community members with whom we work each day.
Originally from London, Jess is an artist with over ten years of experience in education. Her impressive educational background includes an undergraduate degree in print design from the University of the Arts, London, a Foundation in Art Therapy from the British Association of Art Therapists, and a Masters Degree in Art Education from Pratt Institute in New York. Jess brought her dual passion for art and education with her to the States, where she initially served as Arts Specialist and Program Coordinator for the AHRC’s Residential Summer Camp in Upstate New York.
Jess joined the Kids Creative team over five years ago, serving as the Art Specialist before taking on her current role as the Director of the Upper West Side Summer Camp. She also facilitates our free monthly arts workshops, Creative Saturdays, bringing the Kids Creative philosophy to an even broader and more diverse community. In addition to her devoted work for Kids Creative, Jess is also active with UWS youth as the Art Department Head at the Smith School. Her enduring passion for socially conscious and inclusive arts education is an incredible asset to the Kids Creative team, and we are so grateful to her for the years of service she has devoted to KC and to our students!
